VAR Capital sponsored a dinner on Monday 29th April, 2019 with Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, children’s rights activist and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. The dinner was held at China Tang restaurant of the Dorchester Hotel.
In 2014, Mr. Satyarthi won the Nobel Peace Prize for his determined and tireless 30-year fight against child trafficking, child labour, slavery and exploitation. His global campaign to rescue children from forced labour and ensure they are able to return to school is a cause that is particularly close to my heart
Over the last 30 years, Mr. Satyarthi has liberated more than 87,000 children from labour, slavery and trafficking; led the Global March Against Child Labour, an 80,000km-long march across 103 countries; and addressed the UN General Assembly on children’s rights.
Alongside the Nobel Peace Prize, he has won the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award, Harvard University’s Humanitarian of the Year Award, and Germany’s Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Award.
The evening provided a relaxed opportunity to meet Mr. Satyarthi personally, hear about his life and career, and learn more about his extraordinary work around the globe.
The evening began with champagne, hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner and catching up with clients and friends of VAR Capital, both old and new. This was followed by a short screening from the film The Price of Free, which recently won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, and a discussion between Mr. Satyarthi and Mr. Mintoo Bhandari, Chairman of Kailash Satyarthi UK Foundation.
